Interview with Author Hadassah Thomas Martin (J.E. Thomas) by Linda Fegins

What do you do when the you are betrayed by the one who is supposed to  protect you from harm’s way? Author Hadassah Thomas Martin’s book Reasons for Hatred shares  a story of  how one can overcome great pain and obstacles to walk in peace and  in love  by the power of the Holy  Spirit. The book has a a message of forgiveness for others and forgiveness towards ourselves. Forgiveness has the power to close painful chapters of our lives. It also has the power to  allow one to be free of the past and to find a life of  healing and destiny.

 1) Describe yourself for our visitors.
I am recently married (2 Years). I am the mother of two amazing adults. I have three
spectacular granddaughters. I love reading, studying and teaching God’s word. I enjoy serving God’s people. I enjoy spending time in prayer and worship. Although I am not a gifted singer, I love to sing. I love to dance and I love to laugh and play. I enjoy learning. I have worked for Social Services for the past 26 years. I am excited about God and lastly what most people don’t know and probably would not believe about me is that I am really an introvert by nature.

2) How do you find time to connect with God?
When I get up, I start my day with prayer, the Word, intercession and worship. I have a place where I meet with God regularly. There have been times I have missed my appointment with God, but I always acknowledge Him first thing in the morning before I get out of bed and give Him praise. I play worship music and the Word on CD in my car and worship God while driving to work. I also talk with my heavenly Father throughout the day about any and everything.

3) What inspired you to write this book?
In ministry, I have met hundreds who have been abused or deeply hurt; they either cannot forgive or they refuse to forgive. While privately praying on their behalf, I would ask God to please deliver them as He has delivered me. Through prayer and through the encouragement of others who had heard bits and pieces of my story, I felt led to pen my experiences with the struggle of un-forgiveness.

4) Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?
I don’t feel I have favorite authors, I like so many. I do have multiple books by Smith
Wigglesworth, Kay Arthur, Dutch Sheets, Myles Munroe, John Maxwell, Watchman Nee and so many others. I also love Jane Austen.
As for favorite books; three books that immediately come to mind are: This Present Darkness (Frank Peretti), the Screwtape Letters (C.S. Lewis) and The Shack (William Paul Young). I predominately read spiritual and self-improvement books.

5) Tell us about your journey to publication.
I self-published and it was my first journey ever with publishing of any kind. So, being unfamiliar, it was a good learning process. There were many steps in the process, instructions to be followed and much going back and forth until things were just right. The people I worked with were very patient with my naïveté and I had to exercise patience during the process. The result was product that I created and am quite satisfied with.

6) Tell us about your current book?
My current book is a story about one woman’s personal struggle with hatred and her journey to forgiveness. The story is set around the relationship between two best friends who were separated during childhood. Upon their adult reunion, Hadassah, who is the main character, reopens the tragedies of her adolescence, divulging every painful moment and her journey to forgiveness. It is a story about how she triumphed against tremendous odds.

7) How did you come up with ideas for this book?
The ideas came from my own life experiences.

8) What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
I want readers who have been abused or mistreated to learn that they don’t have to let the pain of  their past keep them stuck in time. There is a way to healthily move beyond their injuries so that they can live a wholesome life and live it to the full. I want them to witness the experiences of a person who went through hell, but who overcame; and to know they can overcome also.

9) What’s next for you?
Currently, I am working on my second book. It will be the sequel to my current book. It will also incorporate another story about how God used Hadassah in the life of her father’s murderer, which will also be based on true events. I also plan to write a book about loss and grief, and a book about how God answers prayers.

10) Where can visitors find you online?
Visitors can email me at: hadassah@hadassahinspires.com; they can visit my website at:
www.hadassahinspires.com; connect with me on Facebook at: Hadassah Inspires or Twitter
@HDASAHinspires.

11) When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?
To be truthful, it was not a realization that I wanted to write. I have always written; in journals, poetry, term papers and essays. I even wrote a screen play once. Writing was just something I did as a form of expression.

Shenette Jones Virtual Book Tour January 7-25, 2013

sjonesheadshot_copy[1]

Interview with Shenette Jones the author of  “Uncovered”.

Describe yourself for our visitors.

Whenever I have to share about who Shenette Jones is, I have to first say that I’m a creative collaboration of the arts. I teach hip hop dance; I write poetry and perform spoken word, and I’m a recording artist performing jazz blues and even hip hop locally throughout my great city of Raleigh NC . I love doing speaking engagements. I used to speak only within churches ,but I always hoped to motivate people beyond the church. I became certified as personal training specialist years ago and it allowed me to travel and share practical fitness tips with others. I’m a community activist in Raleigh and I do speaking events for InterAct raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. Finally, I’m an author! I share everything I do with my husband of 13 years and my two sons!

How do you find time to connect with God?

I love to pull out my journal in the morning or at the end of the day to write to him or for him. sometimes it may be as simple as a poem of gratitude. Other times it may be a few pages of pouring out my soul to him…depends on the circumstances, request, or intimate moments of praise.

Who is your favorite character in the book and why?

My favorite character in the book is William. William is the voice of wisdom in this story and his advice and words often add a touch of healing throughout the  entire story. Uncovered would not be a success without William Hall.

What inspired you to write this book?

Uncovered is a story birthed from some of the various realistic struggles and triumphs I personally faced within my own marriage and the similar complaints and struggles I witnessed in several other Christian relationships. It’s a fictional storyline but each scenario has been pulled from realistic events that other Christian women have painfully confessed to. I thought that the common story of infidelity within the Christian home deserved to be told, especially with the powerful message of redemption attached at the end!

Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?

Wanda B. Campbell, because it was her book, Illusions, that inspired me to go forth with my writing aspirations, and it is she who has personally mentored me and encouraged me as a new author.

Francine Rivers because she has laced the story of God’s love so magnificently within her books, especially Redeeming Love.

Stormie Omartian, because no one teaches you how to pray like the queen of Power of a Praying Wife, Power of a Praying Parent, Power of a Praying Woman etc.

The Shack, written by William Paul Young. This book left me utterly speechless and grateful for love, life, and The Lord.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

After reading an incredible Christian Fiction novel entitled Illusions by Wanda B. Campbell, I simply emailed her personally to share with her what an impact her story had made upon my heart. I thought it was brilliantly written and I quickly identified with her writing because it was realistic and not a watered down christian fiction story. This was the way I vowed to myself to always keep my writing. To my surprise she returned an email rather quickly and I expressed  my desire to publish one day. After sharing my written work with her she encouraged me to continue with the words, “your work should be in Print!” I was chosen to be one of her 8 writers in the Anthology, HOME AGAIN; STORIES OF RESTORED RELATIONSHIPS. I met incredible other authors from across the United States, and the experience was phenomenal. Today I celebrate the release of Uncovered which is the full novel to the work that was written as a short story in the anthology. I give credit to Wanda B. Campbell for giving the gift of time to mentor me and encourage me as an author.

Tell us about your current book?

Markus Hall, a quiet and rather passive husband loves his wife, but struggles to connect with her intimately because of his past hurts that haunt him daily. He tries desperately to ignore his own issues but Stephanie grows impatient forcing matters to explode out of control. Stephanie is a woman of faith, a minister, and a praying wife, until her desires for sexual intimacy surpass her desire for God. They, both Stephanie and Markus are desperately seeking after something but until they finally find it, they cause great pain in the meanwhile.
I personally believe that Uncovered is a story that reaches all walks of life. Instantly this novel connects with readers, neither because of its scandalous storyline nor because of its powerful spiritual message, rather because of its simplicity. Everyone has experienced something similar to what my characters are experiencing whether it’s the longing for a father never known or the loneliness Stephanie feels in her marriage. We’ve all faced the war of temptation when we sincerely wanted to choose wisely.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

As I write, the character become incredibly life like.  It often feels as though they guide me through each turn and detail.
However I do often begin with a realistic person I know or have seen and I continue to fictionalize the character until he or she has taken on a whole new personality and style.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

Uncovered was written to deliver one strong message to people from all different walks of life and various backgrounds. That message is simple. It’s a message of forgiveness for others and forgiveness towards ourselves. Forgiveness has the power to close painful chapters of our lives. it also has the power to bloom new beautiful opportunities of love and healing.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently writing a spin off from Uncovered based on one of the characters that appears to be one of the favorites in the book. Torrey Thompson.

I’d also love to let readers know that I’m also a professional singer/performer with a musical background ranging from hip hop, jazz, blues, gospel and even classical. When I’m not writing, I’m performing or creating and writing music. I’d love for them to check out my music at www.shenettejones.com or my

 Interview Questions by Linda Fegins

About the Bookuncovered[1]

After 5 years of marriage, Minister Stephanie Hall’s patience wears thin with her husband’s disinterest in sexual intimacy. With her desire for closeness and attention causing her faith to plummet, Stephanie fights an inner struggle of beauty and self-acceptance as her desperate need to be adored grows out of control…

Markus Hall wishes his past would go away, but the haunting events of his childhood years keep him distant from his wife Stephanie, and her constant requests for sex only push him away and remind him of the very things he’d rather forget. When his boss calls upon Markus to tutor his stunningly gorgeous daughter for her college classes, he can’t resist such a tempting offer, feeling needed and important each time the beautiful tutorial student looks into his eyes…

Suspecting that the relationship between her husband and the Indian beauty is more intimate than it seems, Stephanie decides to take matters into her own hands: weary with prayer, she abandons her faith and finds gratification in the arms of Matthew King, a church member’s husband…

With Markus and Stephanie’s healing seemingly too far to reach, they both find themselves searching for anything that resembles true love; however, in the pursuit of their new passion, the troubled spouses soon find themselves uncovered in a bitter storm of infidelity. Will this God fearing couple return to their faith and mend their brokenness…?

About the Author

Shenette Swann Jones is a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but will always claim Memphis, Tennessee, as her second home. Coming from a family of talented singers and musicians, music has always played a first role in Shenette’s life, but writing would always remain her most treasured gift among her other talents. When Shenette wasn’t singing or choreographing a dance routine, she would escape to her many journals or poetry clubs, and eventually even a newspaper staff or two. From music to writing, her passion for life shines in every multifaceted direction she takes.

Today, Shenette is a motivational speaker, a community activist, an incredibly diverse vocalist, and a new novelist. The year 2010 saw Shenette’s first published work in “Home Again; Stories of Restored Relationships”, a heartwarming anthology by award winning author Wanda B. Campbell. Since then, Shenette has perfected her craft as a writer in order to produce her first novel, Uncovered. When she isn’t blogging, journaling, or creating another story, Shenette enjoys taking an aggressive stand in the community against domestic violence and sexual assault. She also advocates strongly for youth education rights and racial relations within her community.

After 13 years of marriage and two wonderful sons, Shenette is thoroughly excited to return to writing full-time and hopes to use her imagination as a tool of inner healing, self-reflection, and a great source of entertainment for others.

Interview with author of the Blood Done Signed My Name-Melissa Ann Ricks

banner-the-blood-done-signed-my-name

This week I had the pleasure of posting a review of the  The Blood Done Signed My Name (See review

https://thefeginsreport.com/?p=1864)

M. Ann Ricks, (Melissa Ann), is a Christian Fiction who, using Jesus Christ as her example, as He shared many parables,  creates stories with fictional characters that contend with real life issues and inserts the Word of God to communicate the genuine and unfailing love of God while making it abundantly clear that Jesus is the ONLY answer. It ‘s interesting to talk to authors about what inspired them to write a novel  and the expereinces they have had as an author.

Interview with M. Ann Ricks

Describe yourself for our visitors.

Blessings Linda! Thanks so much for this opportunity!  I am a woman, redeemed and set free by the life-changing blood of Jesus Christ. I’m a wife, mother, author and “Godspirational” speaker living in Bear, Delaware endeavoring to live for Christ ON PURPOSE as I provide Christian literature that will not only entertain but encourage, enlighten and prayerfully restore!

How do you find time to connect with God?

Life is most certainly busy for all of us but I’ve come to realize that I must make time with God a priority! Spending time with Him is a necessity especially for those of us who need to hear from Him to write effectively. In the morning, after my sons have left for school, (because the noise level has decreased), before I make a mental agenda for my day, I simply sit on the side of my bed and just tell Him how wonderful He is! His Word becomes alive to me and I immerse myself in His presence. Should mornings not be opportune, I take long showers. I know it seems crazy but I simply stand in the shower.   I talk to him briefly and am then quiet. I just hear from Him. Time to connect with God is of the essence!

Describe the importance of prayer and intercession in one’s life?

It is most important! The bible says that we should pray without ceasing! We are to intercede for others as well. Jesus is interceding for us “real-time” on the right hand of God. Shouldn’t we do the same? He prayed for us and interceded for us constantly during His time in the Earth and most importantly before the Cross. As believers we should mimic His behavior and having a dialogue with our Father God in the name of Jesus is an integral part of the believer’s life. We not only dialogue with God during our prayer time but it is time when we can hear from Him, receive direction and assist others spiritually as we pray for them. Prayer most certainly changes things!

What inspired you to write this book? Book_cover[1]

Linda, so many are living defeated lives, unaware that freedom and life in abundance is available, (even believers, sadly enough). Because of a checkered past, destructive familial history or bad choices, many have decided to live a life of regret and fear; resolving that their fate is irreversible.  I was inspired to write this THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME to communicates and confirm that no longer does one need to label themselves unlovable or unworthy. No longer must one call themselves an “alcoholic” or “drug addict” or an inevitable beneficiary of the many generational tendencies and sicknesses that may be passed on from generation to generation.  God wants us to understand and receive His precious gift! Because of His love for us He has absolved all who believe in Him because His blood has erased every sinful stain!

Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?

Michele Andrea Bowen is my unofficial literary mentor. I love her and her books as she isn’t afraid of sharing the truth of God’s word! She is a bold sister in Christ! Her approachability, honesty and imagination is a blessing! (Church Folk and Holy Ghost Corner)

Frank Peretti is also one of my favorite authors as he truly has the gift to share with his reader what is transpiring in the supernatural. His books have blessed me as they have provided much spiritual insight. (The Oath, Piercing the Darkness)

Tell us about your journey to publication.

Inwardly, I knew that I was not destined to be a “corporate woman” and when my position was eliminated, I had inkling that it was God-ordained, at least for me.  Years prior to this event, I’d resolved to reconnect with the Master and sought to draw nigh to Him.  I don’t think I would have been able to really hear God if I hadn’t been reconnected to Him. “Tell the world about Me with the words I will give you,” is what I heard. Believing that God would give me the words, I began to write my first book; Awesome Wonder: The Gift of Remembrance. My husband said something that enables me to write with confidence; “If God told you to write, then write, and stand on His promises.”  I’m so excited and honored to be used by God to spread His message with the stories that I create. I will continue to do so for as long as He provides me with the stories and the words that will draw all men to Him.

Tell us about your current book? Here is the synopsis:  It will provide an overview….

Are the sins of the father and mother visited upon their sons and daughters?

Undoubtedly damaged, Honey Lamb, like many, is a descendant of an unfortunate legacy of molestation, addiction, murder and bad decisions. For as long as she could remember, she believed the unhappiness she experienced was somehow bequeathed to her. The blood that surged through her veins seemed to be tainted and she often wondered about the DNA she possessed. Experiencing more than her share of misery at the hands of her mother, an alcoholic; the source of all her woes, Honey believed she’d overcome her seemingly checkered path all by herself when she met and married, Mason; a man she loves beyond her own understanding. Unfortunately, unsettling memories emerge to crack the veneer of her seemingly happy existence. Feeling unable to escape what she believed to be her destiny, Honey makes a decision that may have ruined her life. Not realizing God places people in our lives for His purpose, she reluctantly embarks upon a journey that will open her heart to a divine inheritance. Will she accept what God has already given to her or will she shun the invitation of salvation and allow her familial carnal legacy to continue to the next generation? Will she come to understand that Jesus’ blood redeemed us from a self-defeating existence because He became the sinful inheritance for us while at the same time eradicating it forever, giving us a spiritual blood transfusion that would change us all?

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Crazily enough, I heard the premise of THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME while in the shower, spending quiet time with God.  I asked God what my novel should be He gave me the premise.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I want people to understand God’s love when reading THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME. He loves us so much that He sacrificed His only son Jesus. Jesus became the sacrifice for us when He died on Calvary’s cross.  Because He died and was resurrected, He showed us the depths of the love!  We are absolved and even justified by the blood He shed for us! We can walk in freedom and liberty because of what Jesus did. A new life regardless of who you are, what you have done or what has been done to you is available! Just believe!

What’s next for you?

It is my hope to assist other Christian writers with my literary workshop for aspiring Christian writers called, “Conversations…. Writing to Reconcile”. I had the wonderful opportunity to share it regionally but would love to be afforded a venue that could allow me to do so nationally. As believers in Christ it is our mandate to reconcile others to God. Using our literary gifts is certainly one way we can accomplish that awesome task. Additionally, for all who are interested, I distribute electronically, (on-line), a monthly newsletter, M. Ann’s Literary Communiqué and prayerfully it will continue to increase in circulation. Lastly, I’ve begun my 4th novel, The SHIFT!

Where can visitors find you online?

Please feel free to visit my website and, www.mannricks.net. You may find my novels on all online literary establishments. (i.e.: www.amazon.com / www.bn.com).  For speaking engagement, Literary Dialogues and book club gatherings, please feel free to contact me directly using: Godsauthor@mannricks.net. I have an Author’s Page on Facebook:  M. Ricks Literary Creations.

When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?

I have always enjoyed and had an interest in the art of writing. It was a “hidden love” for many years. Not until the pregnancy of my eldest son did I feel a need to unearth my hidden love and write. I began to simply write about the way I felt about the child growing inside of me and the love that I felt for my husband.  But thank God, only, when I resolved to reconnect with the Master and sought to draw nigh to Him, did the desire to write become stronger and strangely, to my surprise, an urgent need. I realized that this could be my way of bringing souls into the Kingdom of God. Writing and inserting the word of God can in many cases transport you into the presence of God and that’s what I would love to share with all who read my stories.

Linda, this interview is certainly a  BLESSING! Many thanks once again for affording me the opportunity to share myself and my third novel,  THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME with your readers!

Losing Hope Virtual Book Tour

About the Author

Leslie J. Sherrod is a wife, mom, writer, and a therapist in Baltimore, Maryland, where she lives with her husband and three children. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland at College Park with a B.S. in Family Studies. She also studied writing at Johns Hopkins University before completing her Masters in Clinical Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where she specialized in Child, Adolescent, and Family Health.

Leslie is the author of three novels, Losing Hope (coming September 2012); Secret Place (Urban Christian, 2011); and Like Sheep Gone Astray (Grand Central Publishing, 2006), which earned a Starred Review from Booklist and was featured on AOL’s Black Voices. She is also a contributor to a couple of women’s devotionals in the bestselling A Cup of Comfort series (Adams Media). A short story, “The Jericho Band,” is available on Kindle.

Through suspenseful and thought-provoking stories, Leslie offers readers hope and encouragement to live out their God-given dreams and purposes. One of her favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 3:20, which states that “[God] is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” It is this message she carries to book signings, bookstores, workshops, and church events both in her neighborhood and across the nation.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12

About the Book

From the acclaimed author of Like Sheep Gone Astray and Secret Place comes a riveting new series with twists and turns to the end.

Social worker Sienna St. James is a woman with a complicated past and a confusing Tuesday morning.

In one single day, every advance Sienna has made in getting over her long lost globe-trotting husband unravels in unexplainable fashion. From a mysterious package that hails from another continent to a new teen client who claims to have a missing sister, Sienna finds herself in the middle of a city-wide scandal, all while sorting out the painful details of her personal life. At the center are two suspicious foster parents, a mega-church ministry leader, and Sienna’s own fragile emotions over a man who changed the direction of her life. It’s a race against time as Sienna seeks closure from a love she never understood and answers about whether a little girl named Hope ever existed. And if she did, where is she now?

In this first installment of the suspenseful Sienna St. James Series, finding hope in the midst of questions and chaos becomes essential when life takes an unexpected turn.

What did you hope to accomplish with this book?

I want to establish Sienna St. James as a memorable character with a story to tell. I am hopeful that readers will be intrigued enough about her past to care about her future so that the series can continue… at least until I feel like her story has been fully told. I want to establish her adventures as both suspenseful and meaningful as it addresses such issues as hope, identity, and purpose; relationships, life-changing choices, and disappointment.

What came first with this story, the characters or the plot? Why?

Sienna St. James came to me with her story intact, i.e. I could not separate the character from the plot. She was a package deal. The premise of the series greeted me one day while I was finishing my Masters degree in Social Work. I’ve always loved a good suspense novel, and the idea of a social worker, who works with the whole gamut of humanity, playing a mock detective with her caseload, immediately appealed to me. Her personal story line – the mystery surrounding her estranged husband – made sense as it gave her character depth and an opportunity to share life lessons beyond the novel’s central plot.
