About The Book

Book_cover

Amelia, daughter of the last independent King of Danhomè, King Gbèhanzin, is the apple of her father’s eye, loved beyond measure by her mother, and overprotected by her siblings. She searches for her place within the palace amidst conspirators and traitors to the Kingdom. Just when Amelia begins to feel at home in her role as a Princess, a well-kept secret shatters the perfect life she knows. Someone else within the palace also knows and does everything to bring the secret to light. A struggle between good and evil ensues causing Amelia to leave all that she knows and loves. She must flee Danhomè with her brother, to south-western Nigeria. In a faraway land, she finds the love of a new family and God. The well-kept secret thought to have been dead and buried, resurrects with the flash of a thread of gold beads. Amelia must fight for her life and what is left of her soul.

Set during the French-Dahomey war of the late 1890s in Benin Republic and early 1900s in Abeokuta and Lagos, South-Western Nigeria, Thread of Gold Beads is a delicate love story, and coming of age tale of a young girl. It clearly depicts the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversities.

Book Comments by Linda Fegins

Thread of Gold Beads by Nike Campbell-Fatoki was an enchanting novel and an enjoyable easy read. The events that occurred in Amelia’s, the heroine, life are a testament to God’s grace and that with a belief in God and perseverance we all can overcome adversity in our lives and be victorious. This historical fiction romance was elegantly and seemingly effortlessly told while subtly addressing issues about the role of women, true faith, betrayal, overcoming, colonization, and worshipping one true God and the love of God. I enjoyed experiencing the lives of others from another culture.

Interview Questions for Nike Campbell-Faktoki by Linda Fegins

Describe yourself for our visitors.

I am Nike Campbell-Fatoki, wife, mother of three, author of Thread of Gold Beads. I work full-time as a budget and finance manager for a law enforcement agency in the Washington DC area. I am also the Founder and Creative Director of Eclectic Goodies, a home décor, party favors and gifts company. I was born in Lvov, Ukraine, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria.

How do you find time to connect with God?
My commune with God is all day. I also make carve out time in the evening to read the Bible and meditate.

What inspired you to write this book?
My family loves to tell stories, particularly my grandparents. I would sit for hours listening to them tell stories about where and how they grew up, their families and challenges. My grandmother’s story about her grandmother’s flight from war-torn Dahomey was one of the many stories that stayed with me even after she passed away. I was inspired by her will to survive. It inspired me personally because it proved that anyone of us can overcome challenges, no matter how difficult they are. The events that occurred in the heroine’s (Amelia) life are a mixture of true events and fiction.

Who are your favorite authors and why? Favorite books?
I have a list, but just to name a few– Sefi Atta, Buchi Emecheta, Ngugi wa Thiong’ Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe and Ayi Kwei Armah. They all have their own unique writing styles but what makes them stand out is their ability to get their message across in such effortless ways.
I have a plethora of favorite books, but two top ones are The Beautyful Ones are not Yet Born by Ayi Kwei Armah, The Lion and the Jewel by Wole Soyinka.

Tell us about your journey to publication.
I began my research and writing seven years ago. It took about three years to finish my first draft. Being historical fiction; I needed to do more research and sought out Beninoise who could assist with more research. It was a labor of love on their part. I learned so much along the way. I had two more drafts after that prior to self-publishing.

Tell us about your current book.
Thread of Gold Beads is my current book. It is a historical fiction novel set in the late 1890s to early 1900s. It chronicles the tumultuous life of Amelia, daughter of the last independent king of Dahomey across two countries risking life and love and finding in the midst of it all realizing the love of God, a new family, and the will to live surpasses all. Its major themes are the role of women, slavery, colonization, war and displacement, faith and religion, love and betrayal.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?
The idea came from the stories my Grandmother told me about her Grandmother’s quick departure from the war-torn kingdom of Dahomey (present day Republic of Benin). I was inspired by her will to survive. It inspired me personally because it proved that anyone of us can overcome challenges, no matter how difficult they are. The events that occurred in the heroine’s (Amelia) life are a mixture of true events and fiction.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
I hope readers will realize that they are stronger than any situation or circumstance. When life deals us blows, we can always get up and continue. The main character in this book had so many trials, but she managed to keep going. She found the strength and the faith.

What’s next for you?
I am currently working on a compilation of contemporary short stories. I also have another historical fiction down the line.

About the Author
Leslie J. Sherrod, the recipient of the SORMAG Readers Choice Award for Christian Author of the Year (2012), has a Masters in Social Work and has worked as a therapist, just like her current protagonist, Sienna St. James. Her novels, Losing Hope, Secret Place, and Like Sheep Gone Astray have been featured in Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library Writer’s LIVE! Series, as well as local CBS and NBC affiliates, and on AOL’s Black Voices. She has received a starred review from Booklist and is a contributor to the bestselling A Cup of Comfort devotional series. A graduate of the University of Maryland, she also took courses in writing at The Johns Hopkins University. Leslie lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband and three children.

Book Review:

Social worker Sienna St. James had the tenacity to find out if a young girl name Hope really existed while desperately trying to come to terms with her husband’s abandonment in the first series. After years of waiting for her estranged husband RiChard to return, she has moved on. She bought a new house, started a new business and is moving forward with her life.

Sienna becomes involved, unwillingly, in a dangerous quagmire, when a secretive wealthy new couple walks into her new business. Her son volunteers to go on a church trip to Arizona with a secret mission to find the father he never knew except through sporadic gifts and letters. Now Sienna must find her son and pray that some predator has not lured him away. Further, she must discover why is she being thrust into the middle of this rich couple’s bizarre lifestyle and why is she being called upon to resolve the mystery of their lives.

I enjoyed each new plot twist. I look forward to seeing more of this character in future works. If you love mystery and adventure you’ll enjoy the second installment of the Leslie J. Sherrod’s St. James series.

    About The Author

Paulette Harper is an award-winning and best-selling author. She is the owner of Write Now Literary Virtual Book Tours and is passionate about helping authors succeed in publishing and marketing their books. Paulette has been writing and publishing books since 2008. Paulette is the author of That Was Then, This is Now, Completely Whole and The Sanctuary. Her articles have appeared on-line and in print.

    Review of the book

Paulette Harper’s christian novella, Living Separate Lives about four girlfriends Tiffany, Candace, Kaylan and Jordan who reconnect years after high school was quite engaging to me. Paulette Harper‘s realistic characters and storytelling were endearing. Each girlfriend is dealing with issues in her life such as rejection, prejudice, unevenly yoked , never reaching your dreams and at least one is still reacting from the hurt of rejection from her childhood that has lead to poor choices in her adult life. The ladies agree to a girlfriend weekend retreat at Kaylan’s home in Napa Valley region of California. However, the weekend does not turn out how the girlfriends planned. When the truth about one of their lives unexpectedly is discovered accidentally ,the impact upon the life of another causes anger, betrayal and further rejection to show its ugly head. Now the girlfriends really need to go before the King to pray, praise and seek the face of the Lord, when one of them is asked to leave the retreat. Can the ladies who profess to be a Christian forgive the perpetrator? How do you reach out to the one that betrayed you when she is in trouble? This novella raises real issues about friendship, forgiveness, your walk of faith in hurting times and wanting to support a friend in the good times and the bad times. It is an excellent minstry tool for the women’s minsitry or for a workshop on forgivenss and forgetting the past.

Interview Questions with Dr. De’Andrea Wiggins ( D. C. Wiggins author of Their Darkest Hour) by Linda Fegins

What would you like readers to take away from your book?

I want my readers to feel hopeful after reading Their Darkest Hour. I want them to know regardless of the circumstance they find themselves in, there is hope, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

What inspired you to write about the issues of domestic violence?

I was inspired to write this book because domestic violence is often difficult to talk openly about. This short novel provides the backdrop for deeper conversations to take place as individuals and groups explore the complexities of domestic violence and the roles of women at home and in society.

How can we help to address this issue of domestic violence?

It’s challenging because many people hide behind a mask as if all is well, when internally they are screaming to be free. How can you help? Prayer is our first line of defense. Pray that God’s will be done. Pray that all negative soul ties are broken. Pray that any areas of vulnerability are filled with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Pray that by the Holy Spirit, you are shown how to be of greater assistance while protecting the person’s well being. Also mento young women and men about the proper roles.

Mentor a young lady so that she understands her worth and knows not to accept any type of abuse in relationships. Mentor a young man so that he understands what it means to be a “suitor”, a gentleman, and a covering for a woman. Confront societal norms which accept or condone verbal, physical, or sexual abuse. Things will only change if you change. The time to do it is now.

What is your current book project?

My current book project is entitled “Almost Doesn’t Count”. It is also a fiction novel, yet this one looks at the obstacles urban youth face growing up in the inner city and completing their education.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

I come up with ideas for my books based on real life experiences. Fiction allows readers to explore their own feelings through the lives of the characters.

What are three things you wish you’d known before you reached where you are now?The three things I wished I had known before I reached where I am now is that (1) everyone needs mentors (2) create and follow a disciplined savings plan for the future (3) you don’t “go through” for you, but your testimony can bless someone else.

What did you learn while writing this book?

While writing Their Darkest Hour, I learned to just write, then revise later. It’s most important to get the information down first, then make corrections and even deletions later.

If you could have dinner with three authors to talk with about their writing ,living or deceased , who would you invite and why?

If I could have dinner with three authors about their writing, I would want it to be Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and Jerry Jenkins. These are all fiction authors who are Christians, yet their work is so compelling and rich with descriptions that encapsulate you in the storyline. I love to read their work. Good writers are also good readers!

She equips the reader with “The Prayer” that is the premise for her book and shows the reader how to use “the prayer” to strategically pray to protect and bless his or her family. Easy and empowering reading. Lynda Brown’s response to some questions shares how she was led to write this book after she had come under spiritual attack.

Powerful Prayer to Protect & Bless Your Family Book Tour Oct 2013
Interview Questions by Linda Fegins:

Describe yourself for our visitors:
I live in St. Louis MO. I’m divorced and have a 34 year old son, and a beautiful 5 year old grandson. I currently work full time for the local library and I also own Spoken Word Press publishing company and host Author Chat with Lynda D. Brown on blogtalkradio.com on the weekends to help support and promote fellow authors.

How do you find time to connect with God?

Each morning between the hours of 2-3am, I spend time in prayer and ‘command my morning’. I realized how important this was after I purchased a copy of Dr. Cindy Trimm’s Commanding Your Morning book and I also read a passage of scripture before going to bed.

What inspired you to write this book?

I first shared this prayer with a few close friends and co-workers and when they experienced the same blessings and protection that I did, I decided to put it in book.

Who are your favorite authors and why?

I’m a huge fan of Dr. Cindy Trimm, Tananarive Due, Wanda B. Campbell, Shelia E. Lipsey, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Beverly Jenkins. Dr. Cindy Trimm book, Commanding Your Morning taught me how to ‘plant the heavens ‘and tell the universe how I want my day to be. Author Tananarive Due’s books are about the supernatural, and the other authors mention write about life that I can relate to.

Favorite books?

One of my all-time favorite books that I still refer to library patrons and friends looking for a good Christian fiction book is Wanda B. Campbell’s Illusion. It really spoke to me because I have dealt with issues concerning my weight. It made me cry, laugh and shout…great book.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

After living a life involved in the occult, reading tarot cards, creating horoscope charts for clients, chanting, etc., from the age of 16 until 2003, I connected with a Christian friend at work, who finally made me see I was conducting my life in a way that was not pleasing to God. I repented and gave my life back to Him in 2004. I then decided to really get serious and establish a relationship with Jesus, after I read Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge. I didn’t understand at the time that the scripture was referring to Christians! I believed that many would benefit from my life in the occult, so in 2006, I wrote and published, Once I Was Lost. In the fall of 2006 I began writing the Invisible Enemies Series, a more in-depth fictional account about spiritual warfare. In 2010, when it was finally ready to be published, I decided to start Spoken Word Press and publish the book myself. In 2011, I published book two in the series, Seed of Satan, and I’m currently working on book three. All my books are available in paperback, eBooks and audio.

Tell us about your current book?

Powerful Prayer to Protect & Bless Your Family is just what the title implies. The prayer that I share in this book is a strategic prayer. It covers the prayer that Jesus taught the disciples in Matthew 6, how to plead the blood of Jesus over your loved ones, how to intercede for others, how to set a guard over your mouth since life and death are in the power of the tongue, how to live a life that’s less of you and more of him, and finally, how to pray for God to become a part of everything you’re involved in, and to enlarge your territory.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Since I write about spiritual warfare, I’ve been under some serious attacks. I began researching prayers that would help me ‘fight back.” Too many Christians don’t know how to fight back when the ‘enemy’ goes on the attack. I sought the Holy Spirit to help me include the information in the book that believers needed to have victory in their lives.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

When you pray strategically, you learn how to have victory in your life. This book shows you how to use the spiritual keys of the kingdom and the weapons of our warfare to defeat the enemy and live the abundant life that Jesus died for believers to have. I’m a living witness, because I’m living my dreams by writing and publishing my books, and also being a blessing to others.

Stepping Down Virtual Book Tour with Michelle Stimpson

Book_cover

About The Book Mark has been pastoring New Vision church for six years now, and all his hard work is about to pay off as the church approaches mega-church status. But while Mark has been busy building the church, his own household has been crumbling to pieces. After ignoring divine guidance, Mark finds himself caught up in the appearance of a scandal that threatens to tear the church apart. And his wife’s secrets only add insult to near-fatal injury.

Sharla would have done just about anything to be a mother…and, actually, she did. She was willing to pay the price for her mistakes, but she never dreamed someone else might have to suffer instead. How close can she come to confessing her past without jeopardizing her future?

Stepping Down is the eighth full-length novel from National Bestselling Author Michelle Stimpson. As the granddaughter of a pastor and the great-granddaughter of a bishop, she explores a conflict many spiritual leaders still encounter today. Readers will enjoy this fast-paced, hard-hitting novel that addresses the ageless question: How can a man run the church if he can’t run his own household?

Interview Questions for Michelle Stimpson by Linda Fegins

First of all I loved Boaz Brown and Divas of Damascus Road . My book club had a great discussion about both of the books. The book club is in for an exciting and twisting read in Stepping Down I am sure. The diaglogue ,for which you are masterful at, and the infusion of spiritual wisdom throughout, will keep the readers engaged as well as give them spiritual food to think about how this story could apply to their life.

Describe yourself for our visitors.

I’m a wife, a mom, and a writer who is loved by the Lord Jesus!

How do you find time to connect with God?

One of the greatest realizations that I’ve come to love is that the indwelling Christ is always in us, connected with us from the inside out. More and more, I’m finding that the constant commune with Him means fellowship throughout the day. I usually have a set aside time in the mornings, but even when I don’t, His presence is constant.

What inspired you to write this book?

This book was the product of prayer and reading two other books (52 Lies Heard in Churches Every Sunday and Pagan Christianity) that really challenged me to think about what it means to be in ministry and in leadership. The main character struggles to balance his commitment to family and to his calling, which is something that I think many people struggle to maintain.

Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?

My favorite author (lately!) is the late Andrew Murray. I thoroughly enjoy the purity of his work in the books Humility and Abide in Christ.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

In retrospect, this whole journey has been so blessed. I wrote my first novel, Boaz Brown, in about 3 months, then sent if off to two publishers. The first publisher turned it down. The second publisher (Denise Stinson) said she liked it, but it needed a lot of work. She made some recommendations. I made those recommendations, sent it back to her, and from that point, I was signed. I started out with Walk Worthy Press/Warner Books in 2004. I really didn’t even know what a “big deal” that was—and it’s a good thing, too. I probably would have been beside myself. Actually, that’s pretty much the story of my writing career. Great things happen and I have no idea how great they are until after-the-fact. As far as I know, I’m just writing and doing something I know I was created to do.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

I asked several of my writing group friends for input, since they’d been married to pastors/ministers. I also researched several things in the media about what it’s like to be a pastor, why pastors leave their churches, and why minister burn-out is so common.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

One thing I want readers to realize is that “the church” is the body of Christ, not necessarily a group of people who gather at a building. I also want those who are in leadership positions in ministry to recognize that Christ is the Great Shepherd. Yes, we have roles and responsibilities. But, ultimately, He is responsible for shepherding His people, and He has promised to do so faithfully.

What’s next for you?

I’m co-authoring a book with one of my mentees, grateful to be a part of her budding career. I’m also planning to write a follow-up to a fun Christian novella entitled I Met Him in the Ladies’ Room.

Where can visitors find you online?
www.MichelleStimpson.com

When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?

My mom says she almost had to punish me for staying up late reading and writing, so I’m pretty sure it’s always been in me. Honestly, I can’t think of a time when writing wasn’t on my agenda. I don’t think I chose to write—it chose me. Bless God!

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Choosing the Road Less Traveled: Finding Grace on the Path to Purpose

road less traveled PIC-FCEBOOK-e1365730949782

About The Book

Born in an environment of drugs, sex, broken relationships, and parental neglect, 18-year-old Myckelle Williams eventually faced a major crossroads in her own life, and the prospect of becoming a statistic, as a desperate teenager unexpectedly pregnant with her second unplanned child. Like so many young women across America, she found herself literally at a ‘fork in the road’ while travelling life’s path. Myckelle soon discovers that each choice in life come with a heavy price to pay, and is forced to decide whether or not to end her unplanned pregnancy. You will be amazed as Myckelle tells how one uncommon act of unselfish love by total strangers helped her to discover forgiveness, break generations of dysfunction, and walk away from destructive cycles that enabled her to change her life, and family, from the inside out.
Join Myckelle on a journey of hope, healing, and finding love in unexpected places, that include powerful life lessons for the reader with each new chapter.
By pulling from Robert Frost’s poem, ‘The Road Not Taken’, you will be led on a journey of self- discovery, forgiveness, and the impact of everyday choices. Her story of faith, courage, and victory over circumstance, contains powerful illustrations for women of all ages, races, and backgrounds, which provide guidance in creating new traditions and generational patterns in your own family, as well as breaking old strongholds and family patterns that threaten to keep you and your children from the Purpose that God intended. As she struggles with often agonizing acceptance of the consequences of her own choices, you too will be inspired to reflect on your own past decisions, and through her heartache learn about the miracle of life’s true purpose…and discover the unconditional reality of God’s unfailing love.

Fegins’ Report

Myckelle Williams’book Choosing the Road Less Traveled: Finding Grace on the Path to Purpose will empower and inspire young girls and women to release past feelings of rejection , mistakes and failure to take steps to walk in their purpose, overcome mistakes and pain and walk in a healthy productive lifestyle. I enjoyed the simple and authentic manner in which Myckelle shares her journey from being a neglected teen age Mother exposed to a negative and self-defeating lifestyle, to becoming a productive woman , mother and wife who loves the Lord. While it is not easy, Myckelle demonstrates that young women can learn that it is about wanting to choose a different lifestyle , making the right choices and that they can overcome the odds against them and the mistakes of the past. God can truly make all things work together for a young girl or woman’s good for them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.
