In Search of A Father by Terrence Wilson

This book is for every boy and man. For those who grew up with their father, it will enhance their appreciation of their father’s love. For those whose relationship with their father was less than what they desired, it will foster a desire to continue to work on that relationship. For those who grew up without a father or never even knew their father, it will introduce them toa Father who will never leave them nor forsake them.

Terence Wilson writes with compassion and a depth of understanding that come from his own struggles to become a man in spite of the absence of his father. Those who are suffering from the lack of a father in their lives will find inner healing, hope, and assurance in the teachings and testimony of this book.

Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, Senior Pastor of Baltimore’s Empowerment Temple writes, “Fatherless families are America’s single largest source of crime and poverty. Terence Wilson’s resilience and self-motivation are an inspiration to anyone in search of a father. Restoring responsible fatherhood is a criticalpriority achieved by responding to the father heart of God. In Search of a Father is a timely book for a desperate generation.”

Book Review by Linda Fegins

I  just finished watching the DVD, He Motions, the book written by preacher, author, T.V. host and motivational speaker, Bishop T.D. Jakes who has emerged as one of the pre-eminent spiritual leaders of our day. The DVD addressed the issues confronting men under social, emotional, spiritual and psychological siege. He noted that many combat the dismal affects of fathers being absent from the lives of their families (whether physically or emotionally . Thus, men who have no relationship with their father or responsible mentors struggle with many manhood issues which influence how they relate to women, family, their children and society.

That is why the reading of Terrence Wilson’s “In Search of A Father” timely message of hope and healing from a man growing up without the presence of his father in the home or significantly in  his life as a result of divorce, is a great book to read for fathers, sons, husbands, church leaders and the women who suffer the ill-effects of a man’s fatherless state and actions. The book examines the complicated and challenging task of manhood when one lacks a sound relationship with his father. However, the book does not leave the reader on a sour downcast note, but empowers and enlightens men. It inspires them and shows them how to trust God as their father. It is encouraging and inspiring that Terrence found the courage and strength   to receive wisdom and guidance about fathering from God the Father and that he has strived to  become the kind of man who will make a great father and husband to his present family. He serves as an encouragement for others that they can do the same.

The book provides basic real life answers on how to overcome the pain of rejection and to effectively deal with the issue to live a productive life. Significantly, as one of the endorsers of the book stated  it “empowers the reader to achieve spiritual freedom through developing a strong relationship with God as their heavenly Father”.  “In Search of A Father” would be a good tool for the church and male organizations to use in bible study or for workshops geared for men.

Broken by Patricia Haley (Author)

#1 Essence bestselling author Patricia Haley takes sibling rivalry to a shocking new level as one man tries to heal his broken family in this compelling series based on popular biblical stories.

Don Mitchell is certain the Lord has a plan for him to reconcile his family, when his younger half brother, Joel, suddenly resigns as CEO of their father’s company. The gesture comes after Joel has nearly sent the enterprise into bankruptcy. Don’s first order of business as newly appointed head of DMI is to bring his estranged older sister home. It isn’t easy. Tamara has been running from the past for years. But once she is home, she plans to claim her rightful place in the multimillion-dollar family ministry—no matter what it takes or who gets hurt. Joel, meanwhile, is regretting his decision to step down and is doing everything in his power to resume his path to greatness. As Don finds himself waist-deep in the corporate mess Joel left behind, his love life is also in flux. He must balance a complicated friendship with Abigail, his right-hand woman at DMI, with a budding romance involving his beautiful business partner in South Africa. Just as Don begins to realize that forgiving and forgetting may be his greatest weapon, a terrifying ordeal rocks the family to its core, and they must turn to God and to one another for the answers.

Book Review by Linda Fegins

In this third installment of the Chosen series, Broken by Patricia Haley, readers are re-introduced to the Mitchell family, an African American family living in Detroit, Michigan, who own a multimillion business and ministry. However this powerful family is plagued with issues of family strife, anger, sibling rivalry, infidelity, impact of divorce on everyone, difficulty in forgiving transgressions, and learning to  let go of the past and to forgive .

I loved the characters created as Haley’s savvy craftsmanship and the real life issues lead me to become so engaged that I disliked a few as though they were real persons I knew. After reading Destined  prior to Broken, I read with expectancy to see how Don Mitchell would attempt the task of mending this broken family and put the family business together again  in light of the  challenges of conflicting plans and attitudes of the siblings and complicated relationships and loyalties. So engaging was this inspirational novel in which, Patricia Haley has based the story on King David  and the family drama that surrounded him, I recommended that my Christian book ministry club read the book. While a few disliked some characters such as Tamara ( me too) and could not grasp how a training ministry could do  the level of billion dollar business mentioned ( not me), they found the novel intriguing and suspenseful, filled with real life biblical issues, which kept them glued to the last page. Many decided that they just had to read the prior novels of the series.

Patricia Haley has penned not just a great story, but one that subtly, yet profoundly if that makes sense, addresses how we struggle and respond to issues of betrayal and rejection and the scriptural importance of forgiveness and walking in faith and love without preaching to us. There was indeed so much truth in the book to make the fiction feel real.

Having read Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Destined, Broken and thereafter, lastly  Chosen, I needed to ask this inspirational and thought provoking writer a few questions.

Why did you select Detroit for the home of the family?

Ans. All my novels are based in areas where I’ve lived and/or traveled. It adds an extra piece to the story when I can incorporate elements of the city.  My books are primarily based in Detroit, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

What lead you to create this series?

Ans. Inspiration for the Chosen series came from one of my all time favorite characters in the Bible, King David. He is an imperfect man plagued with family tragedy, personal failures, and constant battles. Yet, he is remembered as someone highly favored by God.  I’m equally intrigued by his son, Solomon. I’m equally intrigued by King David’s son Solomon who managed to squander away his noteworthy position of power, wealth, and godly favor after succumbing to his weakness for women. Joel plays the role of Solomon in Chosen and Destined as the son of Dave Mitchell. At the conclusion of Chosen, readers weren’t satisfied with only an epilogue ending. They wanted more. So, Destined was born. Then, I couldn’t stop with just tales of the Mitchell men. In Broken, the women have something to say as well, particularly the high-spirited estranged daughter, Tamara.

What suggestions do you have for writers on the business side and the creative write side?

Ans. My suggestion to writers is that writing is the creative side. and publishing is all about business. You have to understand the difference and recognize that having talent on one side might not carry over the other. You may be a great writer and lousy businessperson. Fear not, that’s why you’d want to get an agent and shop a deal for as long as it takes to get published. If you’re confortable with conducting the business component, then you have the options of self-puslishing or seeking a mainstream publisher. How much time, support, investment capital, and patience will dictate the path best suited for you. No matter whether you publish or get published, do your homework. Understand how costs, royalties, contracts, and other key elements work. You are your most trusted advocate.

Do you have any writing courses?

Ans. Periodically I teach writing workshops at conferences. I tend to focus on getting writer’s started. Although I don’t do courses on a regular basis, I highly recommend venues such as the Iowa Writer’s weekend summer courses. I went a couple of times early in my writing career and it was very instrumental in helping me begin learning the craft.

09/11/01 A Long Road Toward Recovery by Nicole B.Simpson

On 9/11/2001, the United States was faced with the great tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Many people were directly exposed to this massive traumatic event.

World Trade Center survivor Nicole B. Simpson has faced many mental, spiritual, emotional and financial struggles over the years from the ill- fated day. She documents in her book, 9/11/01, A Long Road Toward Recovery, how almost ten years since the ill-fated day, she as well as other survivors, still feel the after effects of the tragedy and its unknown enduring toll on their lives.  What are the survivors’ struggles and the effects this tragedy had on their family life, finances, career life and their relationship with God?

Simpson in 9/11/01, A Long Road Toward Recovery shares how she sought out other survivors who were directly affected by the tragedy to allow them to voice the journey they traveled to find peace, balance, and  healing , if any of these qualities at all. She shares her story, along with the stories of other survivors, with frankness, transparency and sincerity to inform the majority of citizens, that survivors have a unique struggle that has been widely overlooked. Survivors have had to overcome pain and guilt to find a “new normal” as Simpson terms it.

Recognizing the call of ministry on her life, even Simpson asked the question “Where was God?” Yet, she recognizes that He was there all the time. This book not only shares eye-opening information in an easy to read personal and authentic manner, but the book offers hope to survivors. She encourages survivors to embrace the destiny and purpose awaiting for them to fulfill. Simpson’s account speaks volumes as to how we are more than conquerors over adversity and obstacles with faith in God. Nicole is no longer a victim, but serves as a resource for people who have experienced trauma and catastrophic events in their lives.

Elder Nicole B. Simpson is a compelling motivational speaker, author and certified financial planner who is actively involved in spiritual, emotional and economic empowerment in the penal system, not for profit organizations, and the educational system. A radio and television personality, and author, Ms. Simpson travels throughout the United States empowering men and women who have suffered catastrophic and traumatic events to Dare 2 Dream and she teaches basic financial principles with biblical references. Master of Disguises Blog Tour

About the Author

James Benjamin was born and raised as a Christian in Winston-Salem, NC. While growing up, James succumbed to the street life and was lured by the many faces of the enemy. Through his trials and tribulations, his faith in God ended up saving his life and provided an impactful testimony to share with others in his shoes. James has dedicated his life to spreading God’s word through his unique prospective and hopes to help change others lives as He did for him. He is also enrolled at the University of Phoenix, acquiring his associate’s degree. James Benjamin is also a student at Apostle Fredrick Price Ministry Training School class of 2013.

About the Book

James Benjamin is a living miracle. He was on a path towards destruction, and through his faith in God, was saved. In his first, self-published book titled “Master of Disguises,” James guides readers through his compelling story of struggling in the street life, and finding sanctuary through The Lord. Most importantly, he unveils the enemy, and the many disguises the enemy has. He provides inspiration where many feel hopeless, and educates individuals who are lost as he once was. James lives to tell his story to help keep young men and women off the streets and away from the grips of the enemy.

Benjamin’s story is one that attracts the groups that are hard to communicate to: teens and their parents, prisoners, people living the street life and their families, and the African American street community. Those that are experiencing hardships can easily listen to James as he used to be in their shoes. His prospective is inviting, as he leaves no secrets and lays out his life for the readers. James exposes the many faces of the enemy that he experienced to help the next individual detect and defeat them. As he learned through his own struggles, James finds it essential that Christians be aware of the enemy’s disguises. In his case, it almost cost him his life.

Differing Views of Lawyers on Twitter: Savvy Marketing Tool or ‘Nonsense’? – News – ABA Journal

Some lawyers see Twitter as a marketing tool that allows them to promote their law practices without all the expense of advertising. Among the Twitter converts are New York criminal defense lawyers Matthew Galluzzo and Zachary Johnson, who first started tweeting during their representation of Angel Alvarez, the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) reports. Alvarez was shot more than 20 times by police; he survived and grand jurors declined to indict him for gun possession. Now the lawyers use Twitter to announce media appearances, comment on criminal justice news and link to their blog posts. According to the story, “The old tools of branding—snazzy ties, confident bluster and gimmicky ads—are being replaced by a prominent web presence.” Not everyone agrees that Twitter helps gain clients. Scott Greenfield has a blog and more than 1,500…

As a solo practitioner with a niche green building and sustainable business practice, Twitter has been great. It ties my monthly email newsletter to my website and drives traffic to both. Nearly every one of my tweets is retweeted by others. Not only does it allow an attorney to demonstrate knowledge, but it also allows one to be a thought leader in a particular subject area. And importantly, I can track new clients from my Tweeting. I recommend that attorneys investigate what Twitter can do for their practices.

Money Can’t Buy Love Blog Tour

About the Book

At age thirty-eight, instead of socializing with Baltimore’s A-list, Lenora Stone photographs them for Baltimore Scene, a glossy magazine filled with beautiful people who, unlike Lenora, never have to worry about car trouble and overdue bills. Lately even things with her boyfriend Gerald haven’t been right. They’ve been together for three years but he can’t seem to ask the one question she’s been waiting to hear.

Then just when she thinks things can’t get worse, Lenora wins the jackpot in the Maryland lottery. In a heartbeat, all her dreams become possible. She quits her job and indulges her every desire—starting with a shiny, silver BMW and a million-dollar mansion. Gerald is finally ready to put a ring on her finger, and the city’s most exclusive women’s group is dying for her to join.

Yet as her life starts to come together, the things Lenora holds dear begin to fall apart. Has her world really changed for the better, or does fortune come with a heavy price?

About the Author

Connie Briscoe has been a full-time published author for more than 17 years. Her work has hit the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.

In an Interview Connie Briscoe had these words to say:

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite books are The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, Mama by Terry McMillan, Hollywood Wives by Jackie Collins, Invisible Life and Just As I Am by E. Lynn Harris, The Other Side of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon. Yes, I’m all over the place.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

My journey was actually rather short as my first submission to an agent was Sisters and Lovers and it went on to publication and sales of more than 600,000 copies. I still pinch myself about that. But that success came after years of preparation—taking writing courses, working as an editor polishing the work of others, and reading books about the craft and business of writing. The market has changed so much since Sisters and Lovers was published and it was actually harder in some ways to get my latest novel MONEY CAN’T BUY LOVE to print.

Tell us about your current book.

MONEY CAN’T BUY LOVE is the story of Lenora Stone, a photographer with money and man troubles who suddenly wins millions in the lottery and meets the guy of her dreams. The question: Will Lenora smarten up about men and money? Or will she blow it all?

What influenced you to write this book?

Many things including the current times we live in. I asked myself what might an insecure woman do if she suddenly won millions of dollars and met the man of her dreams. Would she smarten up and gain more confidence? Or would she blow it all?

 Book Review by Linda Fegins
This page turner, A Good Excuse to Be Bad by Miranda Parker, is a great blend of mystery, romance, and humor with a redemptive theme. I was hooked early on with this fast paced “who done it” in a “Christian setting”. I enjoyed Angel, the feisty bail recovery agent hunter’s, personality and her struggle to do the right thing while attempting to overcome her “bad girl” past reputation, compared to her lady like First Lady of a church twin sister, and their over the top  diva mother. “I have a good entertaining book for us to read for our September or November meeting”, I told one of my book club members. I was disappointed that I did not learn what caused Angel’s sister, Ava and her murdered  husband  ,a  prominent  minister, to part ways from her. Oh well, I look forward to finding out  in the next book which I hope will not leave me in suspense.
